Watching Out For Your Tax Burden

I am committed to being a good steward of our residents’ money. I have consistently voted to reduce the tax rate for all, and to increase the tax relief program for senior citizens and the handicapped.

Keeping Our ‘Safe City’ and ‘Best Schools’ Status

I will work hard to retain, properly train and to equip our public safety professionals. We must expand cooperation between appropriate city departments and residents to efficiently and effectively protect and refurbish our communities. I have been and will continue to be a champion for education. Council must wisely serve with the School Board to provide the needs of our teachers and their students in all of our schools.

Improving our Quality of Life and Services

I will continue to help enhance responsiveness and improve dependability of city services. I have served as liaison to Parks and Recreation and worked to require developers to pay their fair share for parks and open spaces. I will continue to work for partnerships in developing parks and community centers and push to make the Deep Creek Regional Park a reality.

    Managing Growth Responsibly

There must be a balance between growth and the ability to pay for services, and I will continue to be a voice of reason on Council. I worked for redevelopment and private investment in established communities. I have fought to limit urban sprawl and successfully held the line in the Comprehensive Plan.

    Working on Improving Congestion

During my service on the City Council we have been successful in providing the Chesapeake Expressway, the new Great Bridge Bridge, Moses Grandy Trail and the new Route 17. However, we must continue to provide solutions for our citizens traveling throughout Chesapeake. To help thousands, we must continue to push for the widening of Dominion Boulevard and a new Steel Bridge as major priorities.
